Hardfloors: Understanding Scratch Resistance
The hardness of a wood floor, as measured by a Janka rating is NOT a measure for scratch resistance. A Janka rating simply measures the dent resistance of a timber when impacted.
The surface finish applied to the timber is the part that scratches. Equally, the surface of a water resistant laminate floor, or hybrid floor, or vinyl plank is equally what matters most when it comes to scratch resistance.

With the modern levels of water resistance, water resistant laminate stands head and shoulders above the other options in this regard.
Carpet in Pet Households: Style and Fibre Selection Matter Enormously
Carpet is not the obvious choice for a pet household, but dismissing it entirely is a mistake. In bedrooms, home offices, and lower-traffic areas, carpet provides acoustic comfort, thermal insulation, and genuine cosiness that hard flooring cannot replicate.
The key is choosing the right style and fibre.
